Jake Brown, the Australian-born skateboarder who crashed 45 feet at the 2007 Summer X Games nine months ago in Los Angeles, is back on his feet and ready to confront the mega-ramp that could have killed him.
He suffered liver and lung contusions, a fractured vertebra, whiplash and a broken wrist, but managed to survive the nasty spill.
He decided he was ready for Bob Burnquist's Mega Ranp in San Diego. Jake said he wasn’t nervous, and judging by the b/s 360 he hucked over the gap on his first attempt in nearly a year, he looked like he hadn’t stopped skating at all. He made the b/s 360 on his third try, but as he sped down the landing ramp and headed for the quarter, everyone was wondering the same thing: repeat?
He rode up the transition comfortably and clacked out a big b/s air.
“I wasn’t nervous when I got here,” Jake said later, “but as I was heading across the flat bottom and looking at the transition, I was like, ‘Oh shit.’”
Congrats to one of the toughest skaters industry.
